Christmas presents!

These jars were on my Christmas list and I was lucky enough to get them! What great labels, once the jars are empty they will look great on my studio desk as pen and paintbrush pots.

Things I like...

Here are some things I have seen recently and like.... I especially like the cut shapes in Mark Herald's collage with lines and markings on top.

In the paper!

My festive range has been featured in the 2 local newspapers and I am being interviewed on Radio Suffolk next Tuesday about my Illustration work! I'm also very busy trying to get work completed before Christmas - doing an illustration for a poster for Ipswich Building Society today!

Jim Butler

I went to a PV at Cambridge last night, for an exhibition of work by one of my old tutors, Jim Butler. It showed a series of his typographical screenprints based on drawings of shop signs in Budapest, Cadiz, Rome, Nice, Porto and Cambridge. These screeprints formed an A-Z and are also the basis for a series of alphabet books.
It was very inspiring to see simple yet strong compositions with a unified colour palette of well observed found typography. I was also very interested in seeing the different stencils and materials he used to create the work.

Caffe

I've had a good day's work on caffe - developing images which will be part of my solo exhibition at the Suffolk Food Hall early next year. I want the image to be simple shapes with a strong colour theme.

Nice colours

I like the colour palette of this little card. Feels a little bit spanish to me.

Ice Skating

On trip to Cambridge in the snow yesterday I saw some lovely work at the Cambridge Contemporary Art gallery and couldn't resist buying this beautifully observed and drawn card of ice skaters by Helen Beard.

I also enjoyed the Brighton sea front screen-prints by Katty McMurray.

As well as some fun and playful work by John Dilnot....
